Winter Wonderland

<<Return to Activities PageSnowboarding at Willamette Pass

Temperatures are dropping, and the moisture is upon us. In the Cascades, this means fluffy, white snow! Although it often translates as rain in the Willamette Valley and on the Oregon Coast, there are many festivals, events and indoor activities to keep you warm and cozy on a winter day. Make sure your winter travel plans include some of the Northwest's best, right here in Lane County.

Snow! Snow! Snow!

Children of winter, grab your skis, snowboards, tubes, or snow shoes and head into the Cascade Mountains.

At Willamette Pass Ski Area, 65 miles (104 km) east of Eugene on Highway 58, ride up to five ski lifts, including a high-speed, six passenger lift that takes you to the 6,683-foot (2,037 m) summit in as little as five minutes. In addition to downhill runs, Willamette Pass offers 12 miles (19 km) of cross-country trails accessible from the Nordic Center. For an adventure less technical, rent a snow tube and enjoy the designated runs complete with a tow for easy trips back up the hill.

Hoodoo Ski Area, located on the crest of the Santiam Pass on Highway 20, is only about 83 miles (133 km) from Eugene and a beautiful drive along the McKenzie River. Five lifts carry skiers and snowboarders to a variety of terrain, and the five-acre Hoodoo Autobahn features one of the largest tube hills in the Tubing at Willamette PassNorthwest. The fast, 800-foot (244 m) tubing runs, complete with modern lift, thrill kids and kids-at-heart alike. The Easy Ridge Sled Hill is even perfect for the smallest member of the family.

Stay Warm This Season

Do you like the Oregon outdoors but not the winter cold? Take a dip in one of the area's relaxing hot springs, where you’ll be graced by the natural beauty of winter while you soak.  From developed resorts to backwoods bubbles, these sulfurous hot tubs offer the perfect way to relax after a day of chilly hiking or hard skiing.
